Information about the book

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin wall, it is noticeable that the look back at the historical events of 1989/1990 has become more differentiated since the initial euphoria and subsequent sobering up.

Authors, artists and directors are looking for their own forms of discourse that supplement, undermine or question the outdated interpretation pattern. Fictional texts are included as are autobiographical memories and documentary film and television productions. Films that were made immediately after the reunification like »Germany Year 90 Nine Zero« (1990) from Jean-Luc Godard and »Silent Country« (1990) from Andreas Dresen as well as the Oscar-winning film »The Lives of Others« (2006), which sets a new focus after the comedies produced after the reunification, are all taken into account.

Texts from Heiner Müller, Christa Wolf, Günter Grass and Sevgi Özdamar are also presented as well as artistic works from Gerhard Richter, Thomas Demand and Sophie Calle.
